EARTH DANCE
September 1998

In cooperation with music collectives in over 50 countries, gatherings are organized in clubs and outdoor spaces once a year to aid in a global meditation of peace for the aid of our brothers and sisters in Tibet. Our San Francisco community gathered at the Bandshell of Golden Gate Park. Beautiful nature altars created by Dianna Rawleigh and the Dreamspell Collective.

BURNING MAN COMMUNITY DANCE 1998

Black Rock City, Nevada pops up on the map with over 20,000 people from all around the world every summer. The ticket reads: "You Voluntarily Assume The Risk of Serious Injury or Death By Attending." No joke! Burning Man is a collective celebration and survival ritual. Extreme temperatures = Extreme behaviors! 400 theme camps and the most concentrated assemblage of artists, musicians, technologists and transmodern culture-shapers on the planet. Once you go you'll never look back. Burning Man has become a magnet for rave culture and techno music fans, and the Community Dance, developed by Radio-V and several other participating groups, is the culmination of a week of wonderment and amazing vibrations. The rave beyond rave.

DAY OUT OF TIME
July 24-25. 1998

In celebration of the Mayan New Year, the SF underground tribes united with less than two weeks notice to transform a giant South of Market building into a maze of art and music technology. Five rooms: Ambient, Drum n' Bass, Experimental, Trance - and Grateful Dead (the owners of the building were from the Dead's inner-circle, and The Other Ones were playing in the Bay Area that night; ours was a special after party for them). A rainbow of colors twisting and turning...the party rocked on Ôtil the early a.m. and all proceeds from the event went to a legal fund for victims of the War on Drugs. Special thanks to the CCC, Russ Street Space Station, Koinonea, Future Breaks FM and Sacred Dance Society.

Check out this review of the party posted on the Hyperreal SFRaves newsgroup:

Subject: A Day Out of Time (Blew my mind!)

for lack of better descriptive words
This was un f-ing believable!

I had the greatest time!

Location-
Plenty of room to walk around-almost like a maze
plenty o' rooms to choose from and the decor ROCKED!

you could tell alot of time was put into this party.
$5 donation a the door FREE FRUIT! FREE WATER!

and the vibe was killah!

when i first arrived a few of the rooms were still lit and being set up.
Every single room was t-w-i-s-t-e-d!
little hiding places (for chllin) plenty of space for dancing
Everyone was having a good time-

and the music-
i was in heaven and spent the first part of the party in the ambient room.
the music was smooth & silky
when i did venture out i was pleased every time!
the experimental room was so diverse-
at first there were drums live over techno- a little keyboard etc.
the music was tribal blending into DETROIT STYLE! a-mazing!!!
i know i danced my ass off (because i had to go back and pick it up the nextday)

JUNGLE ROOM- i was blown away!!!
evey part of the jungle world and its influences was represented

this was definitely the best party i have ever attended in SF

a little example to describe the vibe:
i was dancing- HARD getting hot heavy and thirsty to the bangin' beats.

i sat down (semi-collapsed) on the floor before my brain could even register
that i was in need of blood sugar, a kind gentleman held out an orange and
dropped it into my hand with a smile

thank you kind sir-
and thank you all who brought this event together.
