In the Spring of 1999 history was made,
and the state of drum & bass will never be the same. A force of legendary drum &
bass artitsts from the United Kingdom and the United States aligned to spread the vibe
across North America -- to 28 cities -- setting the record for the biggest electronic
music tour in the nation! Piece by piece, the puzzle started coming together in late
1998 when Coretta Herod of Dynasty Productions
connected with the Knowledge Magazine crew in
Bristol, UK, and enrolled them in the possibility of a US tour. "...One evening when
Michaela (Dazee's best friend) and I were talking, she said she wanted me to meet these
guys from LA who she thought would be cool. That happened to be Ezra. He told me they
wanted to do a Tai Seng tour. I thought it was a good
idea. He knew I had worked on the Dazee tour, and was Craze's publicist. That's when we
started brain storming, I told him about the Knowledge tour I was going to do. Then we
considered the idea to combine tours. I thought it was a good idea to collaborate, to make
use of all the resources," said Corretta, who took the lead as producer and publicist
for the joint venture.
With the deep-rooted strength of Knowledge, the spirit of Tai Seng and the action
forces of Dynasty, Contagious Musiq and media sponsors like Freak City TV, XLR8R, X-Radio,
MoAoC, Radio-V and the entire continent of drum & bass promoters, the Kung-Fu
Knowledge DJ Tour kicked off in Miami at the Winter Music Conference in March.
Check out the tour calendar below to see which DJs hit up the different cities in
America and Canada. You'll find Ezra, MC Chickaboo and the talent of Mystic Visuals on
every stop. Soul Slinger, 1.8.7, DJ Craze, Alien Tom, Machete, Mok and Rus are
representing the US side, while DJ Dazee, Swift Tech Itch, Decoder and Rob Playford from
the UK cover different areas of the map. Check out the different city's representations of
the Kung-Fu Knowledge flyer art, too.
Six weeks later, after the dust had settled, Corretta reflects, "It shows you what
people can do when we get together and help each other out. It shows you the untapped
resources of this community if we can focus to put our heads together. So I'm definetly
looking forward to the next level, wherever it leads!"
Consider yourself warned!! This is only the first step...
BIG UP to Jeffrey, Ezra + crew at Sound Design Production, Los Angeles for bringing the
vision of Kung-Fu Knowledge toward the 21st Century.
