Being continuously inspired by the ingenious creation of nature, I acknowledge Mother Earth and Father Sky as the ultimate Artists. Nature and nature' energy-systems are reoccurring source material in my work that celebrates the wonder of organic creation, of Life and its everchanging visual phenomena. As
an interdisciplinary artist I work with all perceptual components -spatial,
visual, audible, textual and temporal - using the computer as the universal
tool that simulates and unites all traditional artistic techniques. My
driving creative motivation throughout my digital art, video, webdesign
and sculptural work is to unite and transcend the opposing realms of organic
and digital, physical and virtual, and contemporary entertainment culture
and spiritual intent. Digital technology grants me nearly limitless freedom of expression, easy translation of ideas from one medium to another (e.g. from still image to video to web-movie), but at the same time I am restrained and unhealthily limited in my physical/spontaneous expression while working on the machine (brain-hand-mouse-circuit). While I enjoy the results of digital artwork, the process puts a lot of strain on my human biology- intuitively counteracting this limitation of the digital/virtual realm I have developed a deep love for Nature and Dance (expressed in the techno-trance gatherings) as well as hands-on sculptural work, which reconnects me with my organic source and my physical humanness. On my excursions in the Californian nature and travels to foreign counries I become an artistic hunter and gatherer, collecting natural elements like stones, seeds and wood, shells and feathers and I shoot video and photos of waves, clouds, flowers, temples and animals to use in my digital collages and sculptures. Mostly avoiding man-made, contemporary civilization-bred material in my artwork I am drawn to ŇeternalÓ elements from Nature, universal geometry and symbols for their soothing essence and purity. Composing and enhancing this natural image material, I am often creating digital mandala-like compositions as a visual refuge from the oversaturated essenceless image/information assault that mass-media-consumer culture is throwing at us daily. In my more social-critical creative projects my computer-generated, sometimes comic-like imagery and stories are reflecting on the state of affairs (be it technological progress, consumer culture or environmental issues)- appropriating the tools and styles of computer-interfaces, mass-media advertising, product design and other commercial culture artifacts. Although I do enjoy playing with contemporary intellectual property and commenting on the situation of our civilization, I donŐt consider this be my strongest creative motivation- My true creative quest is to be able to make art that suggests Wholeness in a world of fragmentation and deconstruction- Art that inspires and heals like I find healing in the Knowing of Universal Creative Spirit and Nature's eternal Beauty. |
