Biography
Tina was born on 24th
of April 1972 at Lake Constance (Germany), at one of EuropeÕs biggest lakes
that connects Germany to the north, Switzerland to the south and Austria to
the east.
I spend a happy childhood in this beautiful area, my parents and family took
me sailing and skiing, while my grandmother would go on long walks with me
through the meadows and forests explaining the plants and animals. So from
early childhood on I developed a strong connection to water, mountains, earth
and all organic; a love for Nature that I got consciously aware of not until
a few years ago, reawakened by the raw beauty of Northern CaliforniaÕs pacific
beaches, deserts and Redwood forests.
Since early childhood drawing had been one of my favorite childhood and teenage-years
activities, I loved to draw comics and fantasy beings and as the time came
to decide on a career path, all I knew was that I wanted to do something creative
and should do something serious, so I chose an education as an industrial
designer. After a couple of product- and graphic design internships I started
to study product design at Art Center College of Design, first at the European
campus in Switzerland, later at the main campus in Pasadena, California.
The three years of incredible work load every semester did not leave much
room for intellectual or spiritual development, but it taught me many of the
skills that my artwork today is based on- computers, modelmaking, sketching
etc.
In Spring 1996 I moved to San Francisco to work as an Industrial Designer
at Pentagram Design, designing mainly computer and electronics products. To
work within the core of the digital revolution in Silicon Valley was interesting
but after a while I grew creatively disillusioned with the helpless race of
high-tech production, where products are obsolete the minute they reach the
market, and creative expression is very limited (..is this button gonna be
round or oval?) So after two years I was ready to move on and explore more
adventurous realms of creativity.
In Fall 1998 I started a Master of Arts Program in Interdisciplinary Art at
San Francisco State University, where I am working and learning in different
media, my emphasis is digital art, (digital collage, web, video etc.) but
to balance out the brain-heavy digital work I also enjoy more intuitive art
making in sculpture and painting.
In San Francisco I met my partner in life and creativity Peter and since then
we are sharing our love for nature, art and music with a loose, extended family,
the psychedelic trance community, people connected through electronic music,
travelling, all-night dance celebrations and creative, alternative technology-embracing
lifestyles.
Here I found the freedom and global community that inspires me in my artwork
today, an environment that embraces ancient wisdom and tribal art forms and
is also interested in our current digital evolution, the human potential and
the eternal mystery of Life.
Most of my artwork is
spawned or incorporated in my visual work for Ceiba Records (www.ceibarec.com),
the independent electronic music label in SF that Peter and a friend founded
in 1996. It was the first Psychedelic Trance Label in th US and when I volunteered
to make a CD cover for the first release it was the step for me to find my
new area of creative expression in computer graphics and digital art. Through
the record labelÕs visual identity -website, CD-covers, merchandise etc. I
now have a platform to manifest my artwork without having to limit my creative
freedom. While I am also focussing on creating original/one-off art-pieces,
mainly sculptures and large scale digital prints, and exhibiting them through
the traditional art-culture system, the connection to the electronic music
culture and economy makes my artwork accessible to a wider audience and be
enjoyed in less discriminating, more experimental environments.
In the future I willbe working with a group of like-minded artists from San
Francisco to create multi-media events, immersive environments that include
electronic music and dance with video-projection and installation, sculptures,
paintings and digital print backdrops in an outdoor natural setting.
My artwork is about the celebration of Life and its mysteries and I am most
happy when I experience and respond to this LifeÕs magical Essence- when I
dance, when I am in Nature and when I create.
