Barbara ChanOur Native Wisdom
By Barbara Chan

Why do you think it's important for people to have these kinds of conversations about ecology, technology and human experience?

That's a good question. Well this is a question I discuss with my own clients often. I think we need to be paying much deeper attention to the bigger picture. The bigger picture being, how we as individual humans fit into this larger universe and what our relationship is to each other, to the other animals on this planet, to the other materials on this planet, whether it's the water, the air, the minerals, and how we fit into that larger cosmos.

Technology is a tool that can help us foster a greater global restoration.
As somebody who first studied art and biology, and then moved into the human realm of psychology, I look at things from a systems point of view, from an ecological point of view, and the whole notion that we're all made up of these cells that are very complex, that are vibrating. We're all little bits of energy vibrating at different frequencies and even the cells inside of us vibrate at different frequencies. When we're working with one another we're impacting each other and I think it's very important to be mindful of that. Technology is a tool that can help us foster a greater global restoration.

What is the value of these kinds of conversations for personal discovery about ourselves, and our relationship to ecology and technology?

I take the perspective that each of us was born with a lot of wisdom and that through the socialization process that we all experience, no matter what society or culture we grow up in and particularly, I think, in this particular culture, a lot of that native wisdom is socialized out of us, if you will. I see coaching, particularly this holistic approach that I take, as being a way to draw out that inner wisdom from each person so that they can tap into their own passions, their own courage, their own connection with the planet, and use the technology as one tool to help them access that wisdom. I don't regard it as the "be all and end all" tool, but as one of the tools that they can use.
