BEAM 1.1 / BE-IN

RHYTHMAGIK @ THE DIGITAL BE-IN 11
by Miss E

Part I  |  This is Part II  |  Part III  |  Part IV

No one could have possibly foreseen the way the Be-In came together in such a unique, vibrant fusion of light and sound. Every participant synchronized in a collective vision -- opening the channel, number 11! The language that united us was the music. From the set-up stages to the breakdown, the electro-organic rhythms were flowin'. All orbiting bodies aligned with the common intention of creating a colourful place to learn, to share and to celebrate!

The essence of Be-In's past and future were given the Main Stage this year at the SOMARTS Gallery. MC Fantuzzi introduced all the acts and pumped up the crowd for a round of good vibrations, San Francisco style! The Venusians, a charismatic menagerie who rocked the 8th annual event, came through once again this year. Cybervixen Joie Favier--who you might remember alongside George Clinton and Josh from Mixman at the 10th annual Be-In, graced the stage this year with her original performance. She was joined by electric violinist Phile Inge and hand-drum percussionist Chis Cohn, premiering her latest song entitled "Cybertribe/Connected" <link to lyrics below>. It was enchanting to vibe with the conscious groove of live electronic composer Craig Russo, representing his own label Seedpod Records out of Santa Cruz -- his live PA was quite a set-up!. Galaxy, otherwise known as Galactic Dreamspell, chanted and shimmied to an assortment of groovy beats. Closing out the evening with a taste of heaven, Radio-V's own Arc Angel Gabe Real took over the turntables with a fluid, funky set of dreamy drum 'n' bass.

The Be-In's Ambient Salon was an essential chill-space to connect with fellow dreamers. Dagny and Randy's team, including the organic altar creations of Dreamspell, created a serene retreat from the movement and velocity of the other areas of the evening's event. Playing off one remaining installment from a bug exhibit left at the gallery that day, the Salon took on the vibe of an organic insect lounge with musicians and DJs sitting on the floor. DJ Vince started off the evening weaving together his collection of unique grooves. Wayne followed next with his own interpretations of deep and funky, with Dagny transitioning into some spaced-out African beats and random musical streams. Daniel completed the DJ sets with his flowing ethnic trance melodies as a group of friends consisting of Galen, Marcus, David, Jim and Michael took off on an improve "ambient gamalon" jam which encompassed everything from electronic synths to live violin and drum loops with didgeridoo. It was a phenomenal collaboration that ended the night in a sweet and sacred space.

The Trance Cube was the third immersive musical environment which continued on 'til the break of dawn. Intense psychedelic breakbeat mixmasters Rob Rayle and Lorin of Koininea brought on the flavour, keeping the dancers in an absolute frenzy! The Be-In's UK guest DJ Anunnaki from Dragonfly Records , held down a tight set despite the heavy steppers at the front of the dancefloor who made the turntable's needles jump! As the night moved on, other San Francisco DJ talents grabbed their selections and took over the helm, including Tim from CCC and DJ Goz of Radio-V with the final anthem -- a remix of Henrix's "If 6 was 9" -- "If 60s were 90s" by Britain's Beautiful People.

Respect to everyone who took participated in this night of rhythm, music and magic.

Cybertribe/Connected -Joie Favier

Cybertribe
Connect our hearts! Entranced oneness and evolution,
We're all connected, we're all one
And we know where we are when we're together

(Chorus) Are you connected on the Cyberweb, are you connected, Just
put out your thread, Connected, Come into my home
Connected, And now we'll never be alone again*

It's working they can't stop it, It's connected us all, It's one for us
and one for all, the Aquarian Age is upon us at last, our time has come,
enough has past!
Cybertribe!

We have machines now, to bid our will, we have knobs to twiddle, fulfill
our will, we have expanded memory's look out now, we have technology
under our belts, we can do whatever we fucking well please!

Chorus*

We don't have to be alone anymore,
not with the internet, We love that ,Connected to the web Don't let
technology hit you in the head cause it will hurt...

What is it giving?, what is it taking away? What is it giving, What is
it taking away? How are we living ? we have to check in everyday, What
is it giving? Can you say Y2K?

They're levitating bugs today, tomorrow it'll be humans, hey, hey, hey!
They're levitating bugs, Beam me up Scotty!
Our time has come, Millennium!
Keep up the good work! keep up the good fight! We know where we are when
we're together!

Chorus* x4
